Dr. Anthony J. Tether

Dr. Anthony J. Tether was Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 2001 to his retirement in 2009. DARPA is the principal Agency within the Department of Defense for research, development, and demonstration of concepts, devices, and systems that provide highly advanced new technology capabilities. In 2009, Dr. Tether re-formed The Sequoia Group (TSG), which serves government and industrial clients.

The Sequoia Group provides program management and strategy development services to government and industry. He is also a Distinguished Fellow with the Council on Competitiveness located in Washington DC. From 1996 to 2001, Dr. Tether held the position of Chief Executive Officer and President of The Sequoia Group, which he founded in 1996. From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Tether served as Chief Executive Officer for Dynamics Technology Inc. From 1992 to 1994, he was Vice President of Science Applications International Corporation's (SAIC) Advanced Technology Sector, and then Vice President and General Manager for Range Systems at SAIC. Prior to this, he spent six years as Vice President for Technology and Advanced Development at Ford Aerospace Corp., acquired by Loral Corporation during that period. He has also held positions in the Department of Defense, serving as Director of DARPA's Strategic Technology Office from 1982 through 1986, and as Director National Intelligence in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 1978 to 1982. Dr. Tether has served on Army, Navy and Defense Science Boards, and on the Office of National Drug Control Policy Research and Development Committee. He is a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and currently listed in several Who's Who publications. Dr. Tether received his Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and his Master of Science and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Bernard Dieny, Spintec

Bernard is world-famous for the discovery of spin valves but this was not his only achievement. Throughout his career, he has contributed to major breakthroughs in spintronics, similarly at ease in theoretical physics and applied science. Bernard has spend most of his career in CEA/Grenoble, where he is now Spintec deputy head. He also spent two long term assignments at IBM Research and University California San Diego. Bernard holds more than 30 patents and signed about 250 scientific publications. He received an outstanding achievement award from IBM in 1992 and was awarded from the French Society of Physics in 1999. Bernard graduated from Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan and got a PhD in Physics from the University of Grenoble, France.

Jean-Eric Wegrowe, Ecole Polytechnique

Jean-Eric is a Professor in Physics at the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, after starting his carreer as a first assistant in the Nanophysic Institute at the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne (Switzerland). Jean-Eric is an expert in the area of magnetism and transport phenomena in nanostructured materials, mesoscopic physics, and non-equilibrium thermodynamics. He is expert evaluator for various public and private institutions. Jean-Eric obtained a Master in Science in Physics and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Grenoble, France (1996).

Jean-Pierre Nozieres, Founder

Jean-Pierre has worked in both France and Silicon Valley, alternating positions in research and industry. He was a research scientist in magnetics at IBM-San Jose, research staff at France’s National Research center (CNRS), development manager at Applied Magnetics in Santa Barbara and Techincal director at PHS-MEMS, a french start-up company. He then launched and directed the Spintec laboratory which Crocus was spun-off from. He is the inventor of many international patents and has authored more than 100 scientific publications. Jean-Pierre holds an engineering degree from the Institut National Polytechnique (Grenoble) and a PhD in Physics from Grenoble University (France).

Luc-Olivier Bauer, Executive Consultant

Over the last 30 years, Luc-Olivier has served in various US and european high technology companies, covering all aspects from engineering to manufacturing, finance, marketing/sales, and general management as a founder, member of the board or president. Among those were Hana Microdisplay Technology, SVISION, nCHIP, Integrated Device Technology, and Eurosil/Intersil. Since returning in Europe in December 2001, he became board member and mentor to a number of local high technology start-ups with focus in microelectronics, display, and lately micro- and nano-technologies with and without biotechnology aspects, working on the development of infrastructures necessary for their successful developments. Luc-Olivier obtained his Master in Science in Physics from the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Switzerland) and his Ph.D. in Engineering from Caltech in Pasadena (USA).
